‘Open Skies’, a HPCO Mobile Mural, by artist Brian Geihl of Dogfish Media

2024 — HPCO Courthouse

This inventive idea was the brainchild of Jennifer Wolff, Director of the Department on Aging and Public Transportation in Harper County, who wanted to incorporate a beautiful piece of art with a new public transit vehicle, and the result is stunning! This wrap-around artwork gives a nod to the agricultural roots of the county, along with important features in the landscape — the historic courthouse, wind turbines that have sprouted up, grain elevators, and even deer. The panoramic sky is a beautiful backdrop, and you can’t miss this artwork as it travels down the road. While you might see this mural out and about, it is parked at the HPCO Courthouse when not in use.

This mural was funded by the Harper County Community Foundation.

HPCO Flag Mural, design by the HPCO Creatives Commission, painted by Attica students

2023 — Attica

This mural is one of three HPCO Flag murals around the county, in Anthony, Attica, and Harper, providing a common denominator for these three Harper County towns. The design was created when the city administrator joined with about 25 community members from all over the county to form a creatives commission of sorts! This flag design is the fruit of many meetings and brainstorming sessions, and the full story can be found at www.ilovehpco.com.

This mural was funded by the Office of Rural Prosperity in the Kansas Department of Commerce, 2023.

‘Kaleidoscope’, designed by Juliana Whisman, painted by HPCO Community

2023 — Anthony

The Arts Center logo is made up of many colorful triangles, and this inspired a wall full of the same design! During the Anthony 2023 Fall Fest, the Harper County community came together to paint all of these triangles on the wall, transforming this blank wall into something really eye-catching….a testament to the beauty that can be made from many fragments joining together to make something beautiful!

This mural was funded by the Office of Rural Prosperity in the Kansas Department of Commerce, 2023.

‘Come Grow With Us, by artist C. Stanley Creative

2023 — Harper

This vibrant mural was designed for this downtown Harper wall to bring some new life and color to this frequently-used green space. The artist designed the artwork specifically to feature the City of Harper’s slogan — Come Grow With Us — along with many of the natural elements that grow natively in this portion of Kansas. The sunflowers, cotton, and wheat get a big feature, but the special element is the historic water tower with the red fish topper.

This mural was funded by these sponsors: the City of Harper, Tim & Faith Penner, Harper Transient Guest Tax, Pat & Kimberly Schrant, Misak Auto Repair, and the Sharing Success Grant from Wheatland Electric.

‘Be Life the Buffalo’, by artist C. Stanley Creative

2023 — Harper

This stunning piece was commissioned by Gallery Mostaza’s owners Isaac & Karina Shue. They designed a buffalo mug in their pottery shop and felt so drawn to the story of the buffalo — facing headfirst into a storm. They knew that C. Stanley Creative was coming to Harper to paint the ‘Come Grow With Us’ mural, and they asked to make it a double!

This mural was funded by Gallery Mostaza.

‘Welcome to Anthony’, by artist Gavin Snider

2020 — Anthony

This was the one that started it all! JMac Flowers & Gift owner Lix LePard approached the Arts Center about helping paint something on her blank downtown wall, and she only wanted it to be colorful and include the community. This design was chosen by the community, and Gavin Snider’s paint-by-number style allowed 150 volunteers help paint it in just one week.

This mural was funded by these sponsors: the Wayne Dennis Fund, the Anthony CID Program, and Arts Center donors.
